Our House

We visited Lake Keowee on a lark in late '91 and decided the next day to retire there. But it took another four years to retire, design our house, get it built and move in. Strange how the major decisions are so much easier than the simple ones.

Our lot is sort of pie-shaped, on the end of a cul-de-sac, sloping down eastward to a cove on the lake.

The house is basically a 1-bedroom rambler, with guest rooms on the second floor and an unfinished full basement for Dave's shops. Ellen's kitchen is in the very center, behind the entry and with a view thru the dining room to the lake.

This is the front view, from about halfway up the driveway. Across the front, from left to right, are the study, entry, stairwell, powder room, laundry, and angled garage. The small windows above the PR and laundry are the 2nd floor bath and #3 bedroom. The rear, showing (from right to left this time) the living and dining rooms, the deck behind the DR, and the 2-story porch behind our bedroom and the 2nd floor #2 bedroom. That guest room has a balcony out into the porch for a really spectactular view!

This is looking down into the living room from the loft over the kitchen. And this is looking up toward the loft from the left-rear corner of the living room. That's Ellen and Mike on the sofa.
